Catherine the Great's Memoirs(self-praise disguised Manifesto-style)
Catherine the Great is a very powerful woman who had significant influence as Empress of Russia. She favoured the Enlightenment, and as a result, created many civilian reforms. Throughout her reign, she encountered various events and many relationships, which both helped raise her to the throne and maintain the throne. All of this is known mainly from her memoirs.
Her memoirs, reflecting upon events and describing her ambitions, portray Catherine as a heroine, overcoming illness and strife, and taking full advantage of her position and ability to make changes for the greater good for her people.
Question is, though she may seem majestic and righteous in her memoirs, this writing remains subject to intentions other than honest reflections. How does she portray herself, why and for whom? How authentic is the Catherine portrayed in her memoirs?
I will research the authenticity of her writings and whether the writings were written for other purposes. I will present my ideas about Catherine's true character in the form of historical fiction.
